what bodies are considered sexual and consumable? what do you notice about shape, size, color, ability, etc.? go deeper w/these images and think abt what ADDITIONAL messages they send us.

Since the people are consenting to producing these images, does that make it ok? Who are we to judge what they find to be comfortable and ok?

If we as a society don’t like it, we should ignore it.

The message bothers me, but all publicity is good publicity in marketing. Remember the Halloween episode of The Simpson where you ignored the monster brands and they all died? I’m reblogging this with the message to not acknowledge brands and labels that bother you. This includes places like Nike who’s supplies come from sweatshops.

Yes, it is their choice, hence why this blog isn’t attacking the women posing for these photographs, but the system of objectification and the patriarchal power they represent. We’re not saying that women don’t have a right to choose to take these job offers - we’re saying we should live in a world where such job offers aren’t even MADE. We’re not saying the modelling industry should disintegrate, but that advertisers and publicists should be creating imaginative, engaging advertisements that sell a product rather than a patriarchal ideal. And if they’re not capable of selling a product without associating it with oppression and objectification then they’re obviously not too great at their jobs.

P.S. As a general rule, turning a blind eye has never changed anything throughout history.
