I quit it. I quit it, and I quit ‘feminist’ Steven Moffat rendering Amy infertile, casting her as the victim, recycling the poor-damsel-Amy-might-be-a-monster storyline from The Time of Angels, the I-will-leave-the-love-of-my-life-because-I’m-infertile-and-clearly-I-exist-as-nothing-more-than-a-baby-making-machine bollocks. WHERE THE FUCK DID THAT COME FROM ANYWAY? THAT IS NOT AMY. AMY WOULD NOT GIVE UP RORY JUST BECAUSE SHE CAN’T HAVE ANY MORE OF HIS CHILDREN. RORY LOVES AMY FOR HER, AND AMY IS STRONG ENOUGH AND SELF-ASSURED ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT. Oh for fuck’s sake, Moffat trying to persuade us that Amy and Rory’s entire relationship relies upon her eventually bearing his heir is frail. 

I could write ESSAYS about Moffat’s treatment of Amy’s fertility/infertility. Then I could write a book about his adoration of the ‘Amy might be transformed into a potential foe unless she lies down quietly and closes her eyes’ trope. In other words ‘women will become the enemy unless they’re quiet and unobtrusive’. 

For fuck’s sake. I love Oswin. Don’t fuck this up, dude. Honestly. If you make this so that a woman can only better the Doctor or match the Doctor in terms of intellect if she a) becomes part of the Doctor (Donna), b) is born of the Doctor’s technology (River) or c) is bestowed intelligence by mechanisation/the Doctor’s enemy, then I will officially run an online course on the application of feminist theory to your fucked up show, okay?

Just let Oswin be awesome. Just let the Doctor keep saying ‘but EVEN I couldn’t do that’. Because I’m really beginning to see the Doctor as some nauseating, unbeatable patriarchal figure who’s always cast as a well-spoken white dude and it’s carrying some really skeezy connotations. Until Moffat allows the Doctor’s omnipotence/ego to be slightly ruptured (by something or someone other than himself - all of the Doctor’s self-doubt comes from his own guilt rather than competition), he’s just this all-powerful god-figure dude who can never be bested. Unless it’s by the Master, another well-spoken white dude. Just. Stop. Please, let her be better than him by her own virtue.

And if you come out with this ‘BUT ROSE AND DONNA AND MARTHA BETTERED HIM WITH THEIR HUMANITY!’ bollocks then I will hit you. Rose and Donna and Martha bettered him by being emotional - by employing what is regarded as stereotypically feminine sentimentality. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, not to undermine the nobility of their glorious humanity - but this show continues to perpetuate the idea that woman = heart and man = mind and I’m sick of it.
