#i love this movie so fucking much  #regardless of how far it strayed from the book  #i don't prefer one over the other but i like them for different reasons  #i wish they'd kept clay's blatant bisexuality in the adaptation  #BUT i think it's debatable whether clay IS heterosexual in the film  #or whether a labelled sexuality is even relevant  #because his tenderness towards julian was so much more poignant in the movie  #the movie's more emotional and the characters more connected and dependent  #the book is a study on disillusionment and apathy  #bret wrote it when he was 19  #fucking asshole  #i'm only 19 for 13 more weeks  #better play catch up  #film  #thoughts  #writing  #books
